Hi, Hello, G’day and Hey’up to all the brothers from other mothers and the 10% of sisters from other misters (according to the stats) 😉
Welcome to week 15 of the @clobbercalm blog.
Ok, so this week we have Clément aka @craftedparis. If you don’t already know his profile then I suggest you check it out! Holy moly it’s an organised piece of art. The only profile I have seen of its kind. Each pic structured, clear and chronological.
It boasts an incredible interest in all the things we love here at clobbercalm and bridges a love for denim/workwear and vintage perfectly.
Anyways, that’s enough from me so folks sit back, relax, maybe crack open a beer and enjoy the thoughts of @craftedparis as Clément answers the clobbercalm 10@10.
MEET THE MAN BEHIND THE MENSWEAR
NAME: Clément aka @craftedparis
LOCATION: Paris but I am very attached to my native land: Brittany. A beautiful region beside the sea, western France.
OCCUPATION: I have a clothing brand that I created with my brother some time ago and is beginning to work well in Japan. All made in France taking the codes of the marine world (my father was a navigator in his youth and that’s part of our roots). I also do the DA or consulting for other brands.
1. So Why Instagram?
Instagram is a very simple tool to use and takes little time, I have no stress, no computer required, I post when I feel like it. This must remain instinctive.
2. Why Denim, Boots, Workwear, Ruggedness?
The workwear has become direct, I love the raw things, without concessions…the one that can keep with itself and evolves and accompanies us with time. I also like to mix different backgrounds: the vintage French, parts of the US cloakroom, clothes that have a history, an experience. I have an attraction for retro (hair, film, music etc) maybe a kind of nostalgia…
3. What are your thoughts on the rise in popularity of “Instafashion” and the community it is creating?
I have only realised after creating my account @craftedparis because I didn’t use Instagram before. It’s true that it’s pretty contagious, there are so many ideas, inspiration, I always want to see more.
4. Top 3 brands to shop and why?
Difficult question, I love vintage…that would easily be in my top 3. Let’s say I have more shots hearts on parts, no matter the brand even if there are many references to workwear experienced collectors. There are some interesting clothes everywhere 😉
5. Where’s your favourite place to shop these brands
I like to visit my friend Jacques, at Kiliwatch to see the new arrivals and to discuss with him things (especially denim). I am regularly happening at Royal Cheese because they have a very nice selection of shoes (Red Wings, Yuketen, Trickers etc) and the team is really nice.
Otherwise I do not do too much shopping.
6. When did you decide to voice and share your love for your clobber on social media?
In December 2015, it’s been just 8 months.
7. What’s the secret behind your great images; Who takes them? When are they taken? How do you capture the magic your followers enjoy so much?
I do not know if we can speak of secrecy, what I do is very simple. I essentially wanted to find an idea for the look that overrides everything else and I had the idea of this building which can be read both horizontally or vertically. One shot, one position, just a brick wall next to my house and I had everything I needed to start.
My girlfriend takes the pictures, it takes us 10 minutes and it’s in the box.
I want to be and remain free in my editorial line and to evolve as I please over time. I created this Instagram to share a passion, the vision that I have of the workwear style of today. No more, no less.
8. What feeds do you like to follow and check in on? Who should we check out?
There are so many and for all tastes. I watch a lot of french vintage accounts actually. I could spend an entire hour.
9. What tips would you give new starter on instagram to help them get there feed off the ground and successful?
Be yourself, I think every person has a spark in him and can do cool stuff. It should not be too complicated, if we lose this outlook why do we do it. It should be a pleasure.
10. And Lucky Last, You’re going to be stranded on a desert island and you can take 1 outfit (4 items) Only with you.
What would they be? And Why?
Only 4 items? Hmmmm…
I think my pair of Moc 8131, they’ve followed me around for a long time, they can make another getaway.
My work pants frippes purchased and hand-customised by my love (you can see me from very far with these pants, they are unique)
My Stetson cap (to prevent sunburn, of course)
A blue shirt (I’m full, I should be able to find one that will do the job)
Clément, thank you very much for your time. Guys I don’t know if you noticed but Clément has not been in our feeds for over a month. Clément, I dropped you a DM via IG bro, I hope all is ok? Hopefully the feed will be back rocking soon!
Also Clément, what’s the name of your clothing brand, let us know brother, we want to check it out!
Next week we have Thomas aka @rather__dashing. That’s x2 underscores there peeps, woah, that little detail caused me much confusion when trying to find the IG feed online :S Thomas is a man grid guru. With less than 450 posts he has acquired over 40K followers and his engagement is high. Very high. There is no cheating here.
As always his feature goes live next next Thursday @ 10pm GMT.
And last but not least, the past few weeks I have mentioned the new Monday evening 10@10 that will focus on the brands behind menswear. Quick update. This will be live before the end of September and it’s incredibly exciting. The companies we all love and wear have been incredibly generous with their time and seem like such stellar blokes. Their features are coming together perfectly. Regarding updates on when this will go live just keep tabs on my @clobbercalm IG over the next week and all will be announced. It’s worth the wait…trust me!
Well enjoy the rest of your evening men (and 10% women) and we shall speak soon no doubt!
Take it easy
