@ewingdrygoods answers the 10@10

Hello people.

Hope the weekend was fun and full of laughs for you guys?!

It’s Monday so we are back on it with ‘The Brands…’ and after last week, which was solely Raw Denim focused, tonight’s 10@10 with Daniel aka @ewingdrygoods sees us step very slightly to the left and discuss accessories, of course, badass leather accessories that are built to last generations none the less.

Daniel, a pastor first and then a craftsman has his Ewing products scattered all over IG, try the hashtag #ewingdrygoods. Many a great feed, from many a top guy are sporting Daniel’s products with pride so it’s no suprise that he has seen a steady growth in his output over the past year or so.

Now without further ado it’s time for me to hand the mic to Daniel so sit back, relax, grab yourself a drink and enjoy the thoughts of Daniel as @ewingdrygoods answers the @clobbercalm 10@10.

NAME: Dan Ewing
POSITION: Co-Owner / Maker
COMPANY: Ewing Dry Goods
ESTABLISHED: November of 2012
LOCATION: Juneau Alaska till Jan 2016, Vancouver Wa currently
SIZE OF TEAM: My lovely wife Ashleigh does all the paperwork and I make everything
SPECIALITY/COMPANY FOCUS: Accessories and carry items for the discerning man or woman

1. Straight forward, please tell us, how did your company Ewing Dry Goods start out?

I made my first items in Feb of 2012; a leather lanyard and keychain. There were only a handful of leather companies on the market and none carried items that I really wanted. I decided to make stuff that I wanted to wear and that no one was making. The rest is history.

2. Tell us. What does a day in the life of you look like? What’s your daily work routine?

I am one of the pastors at a large church in the Portland area so I essentially never not working. I find time to do leather from about 10pm to midnight.

3. What are your top 3 bestselling items? Why do you think this is?

The Minimalist Belt, The Gentleman’s Billfold and the Bracelets.

4. What’s your personal favourite garment when it comes to the items you manufacture?

I don’t have an absolute favorite but I do love all the Necklaces, the Laced Key Clips and the Gentleman’s Billfolds.

5. What are your thoughts on the rise of Instagram fashion and the chaps that post their clothing on there to help spread the word of their fave brands?

I have love/hate feelings about it. On one hand it’s great as more people are becoming aware and supporting small businesses and American family manufacturers, caring about where and how items are made, caring about quality and the hard work put into things. But on the other hand it seems most have just jumped on the mens’s fashion bandwagon and there is nothing unique about how they express themselves through their style of dress. We must not forget that clothing is ultimately the expressing of ones self and when everyone looks the same it paints a pretty boring picture.

6. Has it made an impact on your business at all, do you think?

I am so thankful for all the people that have supported us and post pictures of #ewingdrygoods. EDG has never done any advertising, we have never contacted a store to carry our products, we have never sent out free products to people in trade for promo. I always joke and say “Instagram made us who we are” but it’s pretty true, thanks to our loyal customers posting pics we have grown to where we are now.

7. Is there any feeds on IG that you particularly like to check-in on regular. What brands are you fond of on there? What menswear feeds to you like to peruse?

@snakeoilprovisions, @bandanna_almanac, @samrobertsla, @thisnormallife, @rgt, @wabisuke_japonica, @mthillsilverleather

8. A quick one about you. Other than the business, what passions do you have in life? What flicks your switch and helps you relax?

Jesus, My wife and daughters, fashion, collecting bones, motorcycles, plants, Hip Hop, shoes, food.

9. What do you consider to be the best thing about your business and why?

EDG is easily recognizable, we do our own thing and stand out from the crowd.

10. And Lucky Last, You’re going to be stranded on a desert island and you can take 1 outfit (4 items) only with you. And 1 choice of drink.

What would they be? And Why?

Common Projects Achilles lows, RGT 15oz Stanton’s, FOG Metallica T, Heirloom & Co Sweatshirt and Mercy Supply Waxed Canvas vest (That’s five I know). My favorite outfit this month. The drink would probably be Horchata.

You’re a true gent Daniel, it’s been a pleasure buddy. Horchata? Not heard of this one before bro, seems like a true healthy option, I’m impressed. And again we see some @rgt land themselves on the sand! (Hey Karl)

On Thursday we have, an IG buddy of mine, @fadedblueeyes under the spotlights and seated in our 10@10 hot-seat. He’s recently invested in one of the @tannerysouth x @clobbercalm collaboration Meadowlarks, in blue, so can’t wait to see him rocking that! Tune in to this one guys…it’ll be a top read from a top fella!

A few other things you should do and need to know, so here goes:

1). There are new products on the CLOBBERCALM STORE. Take a look, the independent craftsmen & woman that make our product are the real deal.

2). The @clobbercalm Scribe built by Evan at @tannerysouth will be given away sometime in the next week, you can see the product either on my feed or on the STORE. How do you get your mitts on it? Easy, SUBSCRIBE BELOW and then follow @tannerysouth as he will be picking the winner. The Scribe is perfect for notes on the go…I love it!

3). @threads.and.fades.2017 has it the ground running so bob over and check it out.

Have a cracking week people and we’ll see y’all Thursday.

Ben @clobbercalm.
