Dudes it’s Thursday & Thursday means it’s time for us to launch the latest instalment of ‘The Men Behind the Menswear’ out into the world for your reading pleasure. The Coors Light is flowing with it’s “Damn Cold” label glowing and I have some random Spotify 1980’s music playlist insisting my ear drums stand to attention.
Tonight we speak to Jaesung aka @jaesungxlee. A formidable force on the Denim and Boots IG scene whose polite approach to mens fashion/blogging has seen him rise in popularity to a following that surpasses the 30K mark!
It took a while to get Jaesung here on the 10@10 so im going to waste little time and hand the mic over to JL himself…
MEET THE MAN BEHIND THE MENSWEAR
NAME: Jaesung Lee aka @jaesungxlee
LOCATION: Yangsan City, South Korea
OCCUPATION: Warehouse (Shoes) Manager
1. So Why Instagram?
I think that it is only the photographs that share and follow with people around the world, things that they like, interest and enthusiasm, and create community on their own.
2. Why Denim, Boots, Workwear, Ruggedness?
Denim, boots, and workwear are strong, and after many years and a lot of environments, I hope that it will become more and more light, and it is not related to their true clothes or boots, but to their memories or values. So I do not want to be attached to them anymore. Like the wrinkles of old people who are getting old fashionably. The more years you put on your shoes, the more fashionable you get as the years pass.
3. What are your thoughts on the rise in popularity of “Instafashion” and the community it is creating?
At first I used Facebook a lot and quite a bit of a Tumblr, but in the end Facebook or Tumblr has rarely been. The Instagram is so easy to use for anyone who is interested in fashion-related photos from around the world through a mobile phone. Also, the tags of the specific words that you are interested in … It seems that a community is created by appealing, expressing and mutualizing their interests. That’s why I like Instagram and I like it.
4. Top 3 brands to shop and why?
1). Carhartt WIP: Carhartt WIP, reinterprets Carhartt in the modern style of the United States, keeps the basic workwear framework to suit various trends, likes to wear this brand every year to release it. I especially like the heritage lines that were introduced before.
2). Rogue Territory: In fact, it was not long before I saw raw denim or boots. It seems to be about four or five years. At first, Instagram took pictures of scenery, my daily life and recordings rather than fashion. And I learned the brand through an online community in Korea and followed the Snake Oil Provisions shop. The online community is now the domestic community of the NiftyDo shop. And Snake Oil Provisions, and now I am one of the brands with the most clothes I have. Stanton and Supply jacket are one of my favorite clothes, including new details and durability, while sticking to the basics.
3). LVC: I do not think it is the best brand that has a unique American sensibility and vintage charm. At first there were times when there might be vintage lines. When I was wearing Levi’s Skinny jeans, I think I laugh now. But I am interested in boots and raw denim, so I think I will find out naturally. Also, jeans seem to remind us that America is the best.
5. Where’s your favourite place to shop these brands?
It is mainly purchased through online shops in USA or online shops in Korea. In addition, the brands that are sold in Korea are also visited by direct shop.
6. When did you decide to voice and share your love for your clobber on social media?
It seems to have been since my style of fashion has become firm. From loving things like low denim, boots, leather goods, vintage, work wear…
7. What’s the secret behind your great images; Who takes them? When are they taken? How do you capture the magic your followers enjoy so much?
There is no secret. IPhones, timers, my own places, and Instagram‘s filters, sometimes my friend or Sister take a picture.
8. What feeds do you like to follow and check in on? Who should we check out?
@whaleysworld; This is my favorite account in Instagram. Fashion style, dark venture, beautiful photos, and dog.
@craftedparis; I like his workwear style and pictures are beautifully arranged.
@illbash; Clean, Simple, Stylish.
@cuffington; It feels like seeing various poses, great pictures, scenes of the movie.
@awalker4715; Shows the way of dress. “Instagrid” king!!
9. What tips would you give new starters on Instagram to help them get there feed off the ground and successful?
There seems to be nothing special. If I have a passion for my favorite things, I think I can succeed. I can not even believe in excellence with my arms now. I am just grateful.
10. And Lucky Last, You’re going to be stranded on a desert island and you can take 1 outfit (4 items) Only with you.
What would they be? And Why?
Jacket: Rogue Territory Supply jacket (desert wash) – My favorite jacket, and “Desert” wash haha
Shirt: LVC chambray workshirt light & cool
Denim: Rogue Territory Stanton 13.5oz Indigo – comfy and fit on me (my favorite fit)
Boots: Red Wing Heritage 8113(8111) my favorite boots, comfy and strong
