Hope you all had a cracking Friday night and aren’t too bleary eyed this morning? I am, but that’s just down to hay fever…sadly!
We’re coming at you with a first here @clobbercalm HQ (that famous island in Ben’s kitchen) today as it’s the first, of hopefully many more (got a few in the pipeline already), product review on the site.
We sent over the Bata Bullets x Uncle Rocco’s sneakers over to Greg aka @denimhound and here is his review. Enjoy!
In 1964, the Bata factory in Belcamp, Maryland, created a collection of basketball sneakers for the local NBA team, the Baltimore Bullets. These canvas sneakers were called Bata Bullets. In the 1970’s, after gaining a cult following, production ceased on the Bata Bullets.
In 2016 Bata re-released the iconic sneaker, based on the original 1964 design.
On June 12th, 2017 Bata released this limited edition (300 pairs) collaboration with Uncle Rocco’s Barber Shop, a barber shop and denim brand from Port Melbourne (Australia).
Fabric: 13.5oz right hand twill Japanese selvedge denim from Kaihara mill. A 3 x 1 weave, with an indigo warp and light beige weft.
- Rubber toe cap and vulcanized outsole
- 8 Eyelets
- Red eyelet detail
- Rubberised Bata Bullets logo on outer ankle
- Gum rubber sole
- Bata Bullets rubber tab on back outsole
- Selvedge ID running along back of heel and ankle
- Two ventilation holes with white eyelets
First Impressions: A light weight, well made sneaker that takes us back to a youthful 70’s. The PF Flyer inspired outsole and red eyelet detail give a nice crisp contrast to the dark raw denim. A nice sturdy and starched feeling shoe with a nice amount of cushion on the insole. They are light, comfortable and sturdy feeling when worn. The upper is still constructed of canvas, which is covered in denim, so it is not flimsy, as it would be with only 13.5oz denim. Very interested to see how they fade. A few things to consider, if you are a US 10 in Chucks you will be an 11 in the Bata Bullets. All other measurements (EU, UK) are true to size. These shoes are constructed in China, but my pair is well constructed with clean stitching and no obvious defects. Being that there are only 300 pairs, if you have any interest in them at all, I’d buy asap.
The limited Bata Bullets x Uncle Rocco’s are available at the Bata Bullets webstore for $139,00 AUD. ($105 USD)
