@ps041079 answers the 10@10

Yo-di-yo mad cats.

How the hell are tricks? As some of you will know, I’m actually on an adventure family holiday as you read this so yeah, I admit I am cheating slightly as this is pre-typed BUT not without good reason. We all need the family time, it’s numero uno so I’m sure you will forgive me??

Anyways, tonight’s chap Pardeep aka @ps041079 (born on the 10th of the 4th or 4th of the 10th?? we shall never know!) is somewhat of an expert in heritage/Americana and also retail. He dresses the part, talks the talk and is an all-round knowledgeable guy who chairs his own podcast.

It’s been a long time coming, getting Pardeep up on the 10@10, which I have to admit is my fault but it’s a pleasure to have him join us now!

So guys sit back, relax, crack open a bev (I’ve moved onto the Wolf Blass) and enjoy the thoughts of Pardeep as @ps041079 answers the @clobbercalm 10@10.

NAME: Pardeep Sahota aka @ps041079
AGE: 37
OCCUPATION: Buyer (seeking employment). Currently working as a Freelance Consultant/Brands Specialist for American Classics London, and Redwing Shoes London.

1. So Why Instagram?

It allows you to reach out to a much wider audience than just your family & friends, as on FB. You can follow people that have a liking for the same brands, themes, trends, dress sense, subjects, etc.

2. Why Denim, Boots, Workwear, Ruggedness?

My occupation as a Buyer has always played hand-in-hand with my wardrobe and how I dress.

I’ve always been into Denim and Tailoring from the age of 11-12 years old, and had my first pair of Levi’s 501 back then.

My understanding of fabrics and garments, stem from my time in retail sales working with an immense portfolio of brands, and then at Emporio Armani (where I was Menswear Buyer); knowing how fabrics are woven, dyed, how patterns are made, garments are constructed and put together – I loved being in tailored suits!!

I then moved into mainstream high street as a Buyer where I learnt everything – from being out at the fabric mills, the garment manufacturers, and so I suppose this was where my attire shifted from ‘structured clothing’ to being more rugged and workwear like.

3. What are your thoughts on the rise in popularity of “Instafashion” and the community it is creating?

Without being narcissist, I think everyone wants some recognition or appreciation or kudos for knowing that they or their topics or their subject matters are being liked, and perhaps have influence – I know I’m influenced by people I know, meet and follow on IG! Thus all these hashtags we use enable a community to be created, which turns to reality when we all end up at the same events…sometimes wearing the same clobber, haha!!

4. Top 3 brands to shop and why?

LVC, RRL, and Thomas Farthing.

LVC, because to me it’s the ultimate denim brand. Everything we now see instore as reproduction, existed once upon a time, so I personally like buying into heritage and knowing how the item was worn back then.

RRL, because it was created as a tribute to the American west and the resolve of the American worker. It’s rooted in everyday staples, it presents authentic pieces such as: hand finished selvedge denim, and sublime tailoring.

Thomas Farthing (although it’s a new brand), it’s appeal and the 1930’s era it gets it’s inspiration from stands out for me. The tailoring, shirts, and hats are exquisite.

5. Where’s your favourite place to shop these brands?

I hate department store shopping, unless there’s something you can’t get elsewhere, so I prefer going to the actual SAS of the brand.

I don’t mind shopping online, but need to have tried on the item first – however, there’s no better thrill and excitement than walking out of the store with the item in the bag…great moment for an IG pic!

6. When did you decide to voice and share your love for your threads on social media?

I started it a couple of years ago but didn’t really understand it. When I started working at American Classics and Redwing Shoes I took some pics of our products and the owners wanted me to start using the company IG accounts, so I then started to understand it more.

Now I post on my account once a week, sometimes more if I’ve managed to find a vintage piece or 2.

7. What’s the secret behind your great images; Who takes them? When are they taken? How do you capture the magic your followers enjoy so much?

I like to capture a good photo, so I take most, or get my sister to (she’s into her photography), aswell as my colleagues.

8. What feeds do you like to follow and check in on? Who should we check out?

I follow the brands I mentioned, and a plethora of hashtags. You already follow the people that I do, but to mention a few in no particular order: @americanclassicslondon, @redwinglondon, @union_brotherhood, @1lrg, @olicongress, @vintage_engineer_boots

9. What tips would you give new starters on Instagram to help them get there feed off the ground and successful?

Just be yourself, and try to capture your moments naturally. Use hashtags relevant to your pic to build a community following.

10. And Lucky Last, You’re going to be stranded on a desert island, you can take 1 outfit (4 items) and 1 drink ONLY with you.

What would they be? Who made them? Why are you taking them?

Straw Fedora by Thomas Farthing, vintage Ray Bans, vintage Aloha/Hawaiian shirt, LVC 1890 501XX denim, vintage Vans…5 items!✌🏽

Really strong Pardeep.
