Fu*k lads + ladies it’s Thursday already! Noice!
I’m in good spirits as a lifelong cousin, and friend of mine, gets married tomorrow and I bloomin’ love a wedding. I dunno why? I just walk around with a smile on my face all day. It’s got to be because; all anybody wants is for the Bride and Groom to have such a good day THAT positive energy radiates throughout the entire day! Such a laugh! Beer, best mates, bridesmaids etc…what’s not to like?!
So, anyways, this evening we are talking to Rene (even his name sounds cool) aka @mooky_bc who shoots his arrows towards the 10@10 target this evening and what great fun it’s going to be…
Rene is a cool, top cat whose feed breathes heritage. He’s got THAT THING going on where he’s older, grey, bearded, rugged and basically just looks great. It really is that simple.
Very modest, Rene does not mention his photos a great deal but he’s blatantly an artistic chap (as you will find out) with a feed brimful of precise content that always catches mine and, I’m sure, many more sets of eyes as it floats up your feed.
MEET THE MAN BEHIND THE MENSWEAR
NAME: Rene Knapper aka @mooky_bc

OCCUPATION: Working as a shift leader in a metal factory.
1. So Why Instagram?
I started using Instagram not really knowing what i was going to do with it. Eventuallly the love for denim, boots and all that goes with it grew. So naturally I started posting it on IG. I love it because it’s really simple. You take a picture of something you like, and basically you’re done. You don’t have to explain anything, you can just show it. No need for words, people from all over the world understand it.
2. Why Denim, Boots, Workwear, Ruggedness?
I’ve always loved a good pair of jeans, and was always wearing one since I can remember. It all really started with a pair of Nudies when I was in my mid-twenties. I realised then that there was more to it. Only started with a pair of dry denim, maybe 4 years ago. And from that point it all went downhill. Got me a pair Red Wing boots to go with it and I was hooked. They’re all things that have proven themselves for so many years. You buy a good pair of boots and if you treat them well, they will be with you for a life time. It pays off to invest in some real quality items.
3. What are your thoughts on the rise in popularity of “Instafashion” and the community it is creating?
I love the community on IG, been following people from all over the world, and am being followed by people from all over the world. It’s good to see that the love for the same items connects people. We can all appreciate a good pair of boots, it doesn’t matter who you are or where you’re from. I’ve met a few people in real life that I was following on IG. And the best thing is, they are for real. People that have never met before sharing and talking about a common passion. And the good thing of IG is that you only have to follow the person or pages you like. So if you don’t like what you are seeing on IG, just don’t follow. It’s that simple.
4. Top 3 brands to shop and why?
1). Red Wing. A no brainer. Started with the Iron Rangers, and now the proud owner of 4 more pairs. And afraid no. 6 is on the way. Love those boots, the look, the diversity in models. A pair for almost every occasion.
2). I would probably have to say Pike Brothers. A brand that makes clothes you can live in.
3). Rising Sun. Love what they are doing, the look, the feel. All of it.
Sneaking in a no. 4 although the list could be a lot, lot longer, Naked and Famous. Something completely different. Like what they are doing with the denim fabric. They are willing to try everything. Often crazy and I wouldn’t wear it if you paid me, but they are not afraid to try something different. Love the Elephant series.
5. Where’s your favourite place to shop these brands?
My favorite place is a small, independent denim shop in the city of Groningen, Ebb18. The guys that work there live and breathe denim and boots. It’s hard not to get enthusiastic talking to them. I go there on a regular basis, and it’s hard for me to leave empty handed. A very good second is Black and Blue in Nijmegen. A new shop and I’ve been there only once, but definitely worth the 2 hour drive.
6. When did you decide to voice and share your love for your threads on social media?
As your collection grows, it goes naturally that you start showing more and more of the things you like.
7. What’s the secret behind your great images; Who takes them? When are they taken? How do you capture the magic your followers enjoy so much?
All of my pictures are taken by myself. Sometimes in the most strange position to get it the way I like it, but untill now I’ve always managed to take them myself. I don’t really think about my pictures, I just try to show the things I like. It may be a detail shot or a full outfit shot. If I think it looks nice, I’ll post it.
8. What feeds do you like to follow and check in on? Who should we check out?
9. What tips would you give new starters on Instagram to help them get there feed off the ground and successful?
It’s real easy. Just post pictures of the things you really like, and keep it simple and true.
10. And Lucky Last, You’re going to be stranded on a desert island, you can take 1 outfit (4 items) and 1 drink ONLY with you.
What would they be? Who made them? Why are you taking them?
My Red Wing Iron Rangers 8113, my Pike Brothers mechanic bib (because it’s so damn comfortable), probably an utility shirt and to finish it the Rising Sun ranch jacket. In that way, I guess I’m prepared for anything and looking fine whilst doing it.
What’s happening dudes? Good one hey?! Now, if you’re not already on Rene’s radar then bob over to his handle @mooky_bc and show him some love! Thanks for your time with this Rene, it’s been great to have you join the 10@10 club bro! Keep up the tip-top work.
As always, lots to do this week with a product review on the way (hopefully…) and a new pin to the ‘Denim Map’ happening so don’t go too far!
It’s been a pleasure as always bros! Oh wait…one more thing, if you haven’t already check out the post I let fly last Tuesday. The incredibly talented @shadrach_artworks painted an amazing picture from my feed that he said inspired him (I’m humbled to say the least). It got me thinking that it would be cool to do some sort of feature on the IG artists who are inspired to paint denim/boots and, well, anything else from the community. Swing by and take a read + let me know?
Stay close people, much love.
P.S. If any of you are up for entering into #teamdenimworldwide make sure you let me know! LETS DO THIS PEOPLE.
