Good evening folks.
We’re mixing it up this week, due to our Berlin adventure last week, as we point focus to ‘The Man…’ that was supposed to be online last Thursday.
That’s the rigmarole out of the way so let’s get onto the good stuff. Tonight’s man is @joe_pizarro and he’s a cool cat who can be seen rocking a pair of Mocs OR some New Balance with equal swag. Tough to do…trust me 😉 Ha
MEET THE MAN BEHIND THE MENSWEAR
NAME: Joseph Pizarro AKA @joe_pizzaro
LOCATION: Whittier CA
OCCUPATION: Material Technician & Redwing Sales Associate
1. So Why Instagram?
Instagram is a great platform that allows you to engage with people who share some of the same interest.
2. Why Denim, Boots, Workwear, Ruggedness?
I always had a passion for things that were made great and built to last. Nothing sounds better like a pair of denim and boots.
3. What are your thoughts on the rise in popularity of “Instafashion” and the community it is creating?
I can honestly say that the Denim community is by far the best community. What were once followers or strangers have now become great friends. It all started with @selvedge1. I saw he met up with some denim heads in Amsterdam and I wanted to bring that hear to LA. Fast-forward a couple months now I am a part of the #ladenimhangs her in Los Angeles. The latest denim meet was in Austin Texas for the Weaving Shibusa film that my good friend @selvedge1 hosted. It’s crazy to think how far this community has evolved from meeting people who I followed. I would like to say if anyone wants to have a denim meet just send a DM and we will make it happen.
4. Top 3 brands to shop and why?
Red Wing Heritage from what you can see on my Instagram this is my go to boot. While looks are subjective, in my honest opinion, these are the best boots, and look fantastic. This is an incredibly high quality product. The stitching is very solid. The leather is supple but thick enough to retain shape and offer support. It’s not just a work boot it’s a Red Wing Boot.
Freenote Cloth: The design and attention to detail on their denim is outstanding. Andrew is creating denim that is built to last and worth every cent you’re spending. When you look at Freenote Cloth you know they put in numerous hours to create their garments.
General Quarters: Two words Great Hospitality. Blair is not only a good business owner but also a good friend. If you’re ever in LA stop by the shop. 153 S. La Brea Ave, Los Angeles CA
5. Where’s your favourite place to shop these brands?
6. When did you decide to voice and share your love for your threads on social media?
I started posting pictures of my #outfitoftheday. I was fairly new so I wasn’t getting the response I wanted. Slowly I started seeing accounts with a lot of likes and followers and I noticed people weren’t concern with how I looked but what I was wearing. Slowly I transition from full body pics to just taking pictures of my Red Wing
Boots and I started seeing growth on my account. A lot of it had to do with the quality of the pictures.
7. What’s the secret behind your great images; Who takes them? When are they taken? How do you capture the magic your followers enjoy so much?
There are various people behind some of my photos. @bigdudeindenim, @dalure, @internetkyle, my mom and others. There ‘s no specific time when I take pictures, it’s usually when I go to the (#ladenimhangs) a group that started with guys from LA who hang out on weekends and talk denim, or on my free time. Give the group page a follow @ladenimhangs. We’d love to collaborate with every and anyone
8. What feeds do you like to follow and check in on? Who should we check out?
This is a tough one because there are far to many great accounts and each one is unique in their own way.
9. What tips would you give new starters on Instagram to help them get there feed off the ground and successful?
Be honest, be respectful, post and have fun.
10. And Lucky Last, You’re going to be stranded on a desert island, you can take 1 outfit (4 items) and 1 drink ONLY with you.
What would they be? Who made them? Why are you taking them?
Freenote cloth: If I were stranded on a desert island I would bring my 19oz Portola denim from @freenotecloth might as well get some beautiful fades and what better place than a deserted island.
Redwings: The Irish Setter #9874 Moc Toe in Klondike. These aren’t just alpha boots, or work boots these are the best boots; so don’t mistake them for anything else.
RGT: Traveler shirt, Not only is it soft and has some weight to it but it fits me the best and it also makes me look a lot more fuller so I guess it will be a good thing to scare the prey away.
Dehen 1920: Crissman Shirt. I’m going to need something that’s going to hold for any weather condition. Something that can work as a shirt or jacket.
As for my drink I’ll take a wells banana bread bear. This beer is awesome. Pours a copper with a slight red tint, minimal head. The smell of spicy banana, with breads malts and some toffee behind. The taste is just what it should be. Tastes just like banana bread with just enough alcohol to know your drinking beer.
Cheers my man, Joe, love the style. Great feature and thanks for being understanding with the change of schedule. Love the sound of that beer as well, reckon it’s not a session ale though?
Anyway, this week is action packed so stay tuned and all will be revealed!
Peace and love ✌️
