Good evening folks
It’s nearly the weekend and I, for one, am so happy about that fact as this week has been a busy one so far! But hey-ho we keep going and keep posting for you lovely people.
It’s one of the pick-ups of the week, getting your eyes on another cracking interview done with one of the plethora of blue bloods that adorn our IG feeds on the daily! Tonight is no different as @bobbymilwaukee answers those 10 questions. A man who describes his vocation as “Jean Jockey” has to be pretty insightful right? Well, we’ll let you be the judge…
MEET THE MAN BEHIND THE MENSWEAR
NAME: Bobby Milwaukee
LOCATION: Long Beach, California
OCCUPATION: Jean Jockey
1. So Why Instagram?
Instagram is the greatest and easiest way man has come up with yet to absolutely torpedo their self-esteem, and of all the things I’m good at, self-pity and loathing is top of the list
2. Why Denim, Boots, Workwear, Ruggedness?
Honestly, because I didn’t get that job at J.Crew five years ago and had to make a pretty dramatic pivot in my personal style to get over it.
3. What are your thoughts on the rise in popularity of “Instafashion” and the community it is creating?
I think it’s great that people have managed to turn a global tool in on itself and found new and innovative ways to isolate themselves in communities they’re specifically comfortable in as opposed to branching out and experiencing new and foreign things
4. Top 3 brands to shop and why?
Nine Lives – We’ve only been carrying them for a year at SOP, but they’re FW17 was incredible and I wanted almost everything. Ian and K are awesome dudes, and I think if they can maintain the momentum from seasons past they’re the next big thing. Their shit looks just as good at an SOP as it would in Barney’s or really any high-end department store. The Emperor Rider jacket we did with them was by far the coolest thing we had in the shop for all of one month before they completely sold out, never to return
Stevenson Overall – SOC makes the best jean fits with the most insane detailing in the world. I wear the 727 La Jolla in indigo and white almost exclusively. The shirting and knitwear is next level and even though their stuff is clearly vintage inspired, nothing comes off too “repro-y” or like you’re wearing a costume.
Schott NYC – When I was 15 I asked my mom to get me a Schott NYC x Barney’s One Star Perfecto for Christmas, and as a compromise she got me a faux leather members only jacket and we haven’t spoken since. Schott is the brand that started it all for me. I’ve been obsessed with leather jackets most of my life and without Schott, I might just be floating aimlessly through the world in Ed Hardy without any passion in my life.
5. Where’s your favourite place to shop these brands?
Contractually, I’m obligated to say Snake Oil Provisions, but if I can find a way to pay retail for something I can get with my employee discount, I won’t pass up the opportunity to show off just how far in debt I can sink
6. When did you decide to voice and share your love for your threads on social media?
When I got the password to SOP’s dropbox and was able to use their content as my own
7. What’s the secret behind your great images; Who takes them? When are they taken? How do you capture the magic your followers enjoy so much?
Steven Clouse, or @thisnormallife on Instagram takes pretty much any photo you see of myself on Instagram. He’s the staff photographer at SOP, and I think he even does some artsy landscape stuff on the side but he’s kind of lost without me, his muse
8. What feeds do you like to follow and check in on? Who should we check out?
9. What tips would you give new starters on Instagram to help them get there feed off the ground and successful?
Nobody is going to take you seriously unless you take yourself way too seriously. People will not respect you or your Instagram unless you post religiously and then follow each post up with an Instagram story announcing that you have a new post!
10. And Lucky Last, You’re going to be stranded on a desert island, you can take 1 outfit (4 items) and 1 drink ONLY with you.
What would they be? Who made them? Why are you taking them? What would they be? Who made them? And Why?
Henderson Aqua Lock Hyperstretch Wetsuit in Neon Orange
Henderson Aqua Lock Hyperstretch Diving Hood in Neon Orange
Henderson 3mm Aqua Lock Hyperstretch Diving Gloves in Neon Orange
Ocean Reef G-Diver Integrated Dive Mask in Neon Orange
This is the highest rated Westuit I could find, and is good for temperate to cold waters; Neon Orange for increased visibility for ease of flaggind down passing ships
For my drink, I’d bring a large jug of Kirkland water for hydration
Thanks for that Bobby! Great read and top pics. Need to get over that side of the pond and visit Snake Oil, it’s on a very LONG list though BUT we’ll get there. Cheers my friend 🍻
All the rest of you, keep tuned in for more features over the coming weeks, some regulars and some newbies! Also, anyone up in the North over the weekend come visit the store to cater to all your vintage clobber needs HERE.
Right, I’m off to a gig and I reckon you’ve probably got better stuff to do than hear me drawl on so I’ll let you cool cats get on your way…
